Cocoa Beach has been associated as the area of the best known surfers in the world, and one name which rings in our minds instantly, is "Babe Ruth" of surfing, eight time world champion, Kelly Slater and the surfing twin legends, C.J. and Damien Hobgood. Beginners and those wanting to learn surfing in the holidays, have no more worries left, as Cocoa Beach solves it all. It is the perfect spot because of its generally lower amplitude waves and predictably warm temperatures, bordering 73 degrees, which makes for an ideal setting for surfing.

There are several surf schools lined up on the Space Coast made accessible by resorts, tour guides in preparing guests for a splash in the sun! The Cocoa beach Surf Company Surf School, supervised by the very famous and nationally ranked longboard competitor Debbie Walker and husband Jimmie, offers vacation packages in union with the Four Points Sheraton, in the same compound.

 The Wiki Tiki Surf School also offers reasonable vacation packages in collaboration with the Holiday Inn Oceanfront in Cocoa Beach; Ron Jon surf Shop too has its own school, along with many other names that follow in their footsteps. Surf Shack provides girls-only instruction based from their downtown Cocoa Beach surf retail shop – much suited for ladies who aren’t too keen on learning alongside male partners. For learners looking for more independent instruction, Jim MacLaren who is the writer of the book, Learn to Surf, offers classes in Cape Canaveral.

MacLaren, affiliated with the world of surfing for several decades, observes that while parents would never consider allowing small children out in the giant West Coast waves, the Space Coast's safer and gentler waves make it safe to teach kids aged as young as 3 or 4 years old. In much the same way that you wouldn’t trek a mountain without first learning how to get back down, it is crucial and mandatory that you receive correct and safe instructions as regards you surfing spree! Whether you are a newbie or a seasoned pro, the town offers a myriad of choices and is home to countless and well-renowned surf spots on the East coast.

 Sebastian Inlet and Cape Canaveral are two locations between which, there are a wide variety of waves you can experiment with. Those looking for a quiet kibbutz with the sea, or just a private zone to try your newly learnt skill after Surf School, there are many areas ideal for practice along the 72 mile stretch of the beach!
